Mae Howl Griff yn wenynwr dwyieithog o Aberystwyth. (“Mae gen i ddigon o wenwyn yn fy ngwaed i ladd dyn cyffredin,” mae’n dweud. “Rwy’n dod i arfer â’r peth.”) Recordiwyd ei albwm cyntaf ar fferm anghysbell ym mherfeddion gwlad Sir Gâr, a’i chynhyrchwyd gan Owen Powell (gynt o’r grŵp Catatonia, sydd wedi gweithio gyda’r gantores Duffy o ogledd Cymru) a chafodd ei beiriannu gan Tim Lewis (aka Thighpaulsandra o Spiritualized, Coil a band Julian Cope – sy’ hefyd yn cyfrannu allweddellau i’r albwm.)

Yn cyfuno seicedelia‘r Byrds gyda AOR fodern y Raconteurs a’u trochi mewn harmoni, mae Howl wedi creu sain unigryw arfordir y gorllewin – Gorllewin Cymru, hynny yw – sain sy’n gyfatebol i’r Super Furry Animals a Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.

Aelodau’r band yw – Howl Griff (lleisiau, gitâr ac allweddellau), Gary Parkinson (gitâr, lleisiau) Matt Barnes (bâs) a Nick Moore (drymiau). Er mai dim ond Howl sy’n Gymro Cymraeg (mae’r tri arall yn hanu o Bolton, Tasmania a lannau’r Merswy) mae’r rhain yn dysgu’r Gymraeg er mwyn uno yn yr harmonïau. “Dyma’r unig record lle clywch y Gymraeg mewn acen Bolton,” medd Howl.

Mae Howl wedi datblygu cwlt o ddilynwyr selog yn ei gynefin gan lanw’r gigiau hyd yr ymylon. Mae’r band wedi gwneud nifer o ymddangosiadau ar y teledu wrth berfformio yn Gymraeg a Saesneg ac wedi mwynhau derbyniad brwdfrydig gyda’r lluoedd yn Llundain a’r Efrog Newydd.

===============

Howl Griff is a bilingual beekeeper from Aberystwyth (“I’ve got enough bee venom in my bloodstream to kill a normal man,” he says; “I guess you get used to it”). His eponymous debut album was sung in Welsh and recorded on an isolated farm in Carmarthenshire. It was produced by Owen Powell (ex-Catatonia guitarist who has worked with north Wales singer Duffy) and engineered by Tim Lewis (Julian Cope, Thighpaulsandra, Spiritualized, Coil; Tim also plays keyboards on the album).

Blending the psychedelia of the Byrds with the modern AOR of the Raconteurs and drenched in lush harmonies, Howl has created a unique West (Wales) Coast sound that ranks alongside the Super Furry Animals and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.

The band consists of Howl Griff (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Gary Parkinson (guitars, vocals), Matt Barnes (bass) and Nick Moore (drums). Howl is the only Welshman (the other three hail from Bolton, Tasmania and Merseyside respectively), but the band have been learning the language in order to sing harmonies. “It’s the only record where you’ll hear Welsh sung in a broad Bolton accent,” says Howl.
After developing a cult following in Howl’s homeland, where they have sold out gigs and made several TV appearances, the band – who also sing several live songs in English – have been received enthusiastically by crowds in London and New York. Howl now performs with his new project https://slatemen.bandcamp.com/

Enjoy! Mwynhewch!
